The City of Brampton welcomes the announcement that the federal and provincial governments along with Stellantis are investing $3.6 billion to help Stellantis retool its Canadian auto plants – including its facility in Brampton – to make electric vehicles.
At its Brampton Assembly Plant, Stellantis will install a flexible assembly line capable of producing battery electric and hybrid vehicles. This overhaul will diversify the automaker’s capacity to meet growing consumer demand for low-emission vehicles. Ontario’s commitment of up to $132 million helps secure the long-term future of the facility in Brampton.
The Stellantis facility in Brampton is an anchor of Brampton’s automotive industry, and significantly impacts the local economy, providing approximately 3,000 manufacturing jobs. It also provides many indirect jobs across the province. It is estimated that for every one job at an automotive facility, as many as five to six indirect jobs are created.
The Brampton Economic Development Office looks forward to continuing to support Stellantis – an anchor of our local automotive industry – as they retool their Brampton facility to make electric vehicles. Brampton is strategically positioned to support a forward-thinking advanced manufacturing sector, and with our high quality workforce and award-winning manufacturing, we provide the perfect location to be a part of the automotive industry.
Brampton’s Advanced Manufacturing sector is the foundation for collaboration, partnerships and innovation across every industry. It is Brampton’s largest industry by employment, accounting for almost a quarter of the city’s workforce. 23 per cent of Brampton’s Advanced Manufacturing sector workforce is in the automotive industry.
