Brampton is in the midst of an exciting transformation. We are embracing our diversity and building an environment for start-ups and entrepreneurs with our Innovation District partners. We collaborate with our businesses to retain and grow their presence in our City.

As the fastest-growing big city in Canada, Brampton is home to nearly 700,000 people and 75,000 businesses; we have so much to offer. Brampton is truly a living mosaic, represented by a young, diverse workforce with 234 cultures, speaking 115 languages.

We benefit from a strong and diversified economy. Our economy has shown great resiliency, especially in the areas of Innovation, Technology and Advanced Manufacturing.

Stellantis recently announced an investment of $2.4 billion to its electrification projects in Ontario, we are thrilled that our City will be a part of the global automotive shift towards electric vehicles! The Stellantis facility in Brampton is an anchor of Brampton’s automotive industry, and significantly impacts the local economy, providing approximately 3,000 manufacturing jobs. At its Brampton Assembly Plant, Stellantis will install a flexible assembly line capable of producing battery-electric and hybrid vehicles. This overhaul will diversify the automaker’s capacity to meet growing consumer demand for low-emission vehicles.

The City recently played a key role in supporting MDA’s new Global Headquarters and Space Robotics Centre of Excellence expansion in Brampton, which will be home to more than 700 highly-skilled employees. This is quite an achievement that I am very proud of.

We are revitalizing and unlocking the economic potential of our downtown by building an innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem: the Brampton Innovation District. From 2019 to 2021, six new partners have established their presence in the Innovation District.

Algoma University (AU), a key partner in the District has recently announced unique programs to further accelerate start-up scaling, investment attraction and talent development. AU’s School of Business and Economics is the first university in Ontario to offer programming that will introduce students to the world of Esports through the business management and development lens. Amuka Esports, Canada’s leader in Esports tournaments, venues, and leagues, has partnered with AU on its new The Business of Esports programming. Unity, the world’s largest real-time content creation platform is also partnering with AU on a training initiative – right in the heart of downtown Brampton.

We’re ready to move boldly and positively into a bright future.
