Windsor Regional Hospital

Over the past decade the province of Ontario has put patients first by investing in new hospitals and redevelopment projects that support Ontario’s high-quality healthcare system.

As Co-chairs of the Program and Services Steering Committee overseeing the transformation of the hospitals system in Windsor-Essex, we look forward to joining the growing number of communities who have benefited from this strategic investment.

During the first stage of planning for the new Windsor-Essex Hospitals System, members of our team toured modern hospital campuses including the new Humber River Hospital, Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and the Niagara Health System. These are incredible examples of modern, patient-friendly facilities that have set new standards for infection control, use of technology and the overall patient experience.

This has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to put the current system under a microscope and redesign a system that will significantly improve patient access to the right care, in the right place. It’s a model that directly addresses the needs of Windsor-Essex and will benefit the region for generations to come. It is a vision that unites the region and has received overwhelming support from residents.

We are grateful to the Minister Health and Long-Term Care, Dr. Eric Hoskins, and his team for this opportunity and their due diligence in reviewing this proposal and look forward to moving on to the next stage in the planning process.

The proposed Windsor-Essex Hospitals System is anchored by a new state-of-the-art hospital, and also includes:

  • investment in mental health
  • chronic disease management
  • urgent care
  • diagnostics and dialysis at locations throughout the region

The proposed Urgent Care Centre will have primary health providers like the Windsor Family Health Team on site so patients can easily connect with community care.
