What’ll you have? During the Prohibition era, if any kind of alcohol was the answer to that question, chances were the glass was filled thanks to distilleries right here. During those “dry” days, when making, selling and consuming alcohol was banned in the United States, the flow of Canadian booze across the Detroit River kept speakeasies and blind pigs well stocked. From 1920 to 1933, rum running came alive and reached epic proportions with as much as 75% of the alcohol consumed in America during Prohibition transported on waterways between Windsor and Detroit.

Today, the “spirits” of this colorful era in history come alive at the Canadian Club Brand Centre. The tour takes visitors back in history to the height of the Hiram Walker family’s success and his personal friendships with the biggest names in history – Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. Guests are brought into the basement’s Speak Easy room where meetings were held with Al Capone and The Purple Gang and the tour finishes on a high note with a formal whisky tasting.
