The Government of Canada is strengthening domestic manufacturing and innovation with a repayable investment of more than $15 million for eight companies in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), announced Jan. 13 in Scarborough, Ontario. The funding, delivered through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), is designed to help local manufacturers adopt advanced technologies, scale production capabilities and strengthen supply chains in sectors from clean energy and food processing to advanced cybersecurity.

Companies receiving support include A.B.M. Tool & Die Company Ltd., Celplast Metallized Products Limited, GH Power Inc., Hitachi Rail, Imagoh Foods Ltd., Paradigm Shift Technologies, Redstone Food Group, and Quantum Bridge Technologies. Celplast, for example, will use its funding to expand production of high-barrier metal coatings and transparent films using advanced manufacturing equipment, helping it compete in global markets.

Hon. Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario, highlighted that these investments will help the GTHA’s proud manufacturing legacy continue to grow by creating opportunities for workers and communities across southern Ontario.

The funding aims not only to spur technological adoption and productivity improvements but also to support long-term competitiveness and job creation in one of Canada’s most dynamic economic regions.

This announcement follows another federal investment in December, when the Government of Canada committed $5 million in repayable funding to support three manufacturers in Southwestern Ontario. That initiative targeted advanced equipment adoption and expansion efforts, further demonstrating Ottawa’s ongoing commitment to bolstering manufacturing capacity and economic resilience across the province.
