I am honoured to have been selected to lead the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation. As a newcomer to the Windsor-Essex Region, I am thoroughly impressed with our business case and asset map, including pas-sionate partners and a business sector with a strategic and in-novative approach to business development.
We are ideally positioned to be at the forefront of an en-tirely new economy. An economy which favors innovation, with research and development embedded in our key sectors – Advanced Manufacturing, Agri-Business, Life Sciences and Transportation, Logistics and Warehousing.
It’s an economy where our businesses within all nine mu-nicipalities have embraced innovation with passion to trans-form our region into an economic powerhouse.
As much as $500 million in international trade crosses the Windsor-Detroit border every day, all heading to consumer-rich markets across North America, many within a day’s drive of Windsor-Essex.
Our proximity to the U.S. allows local companies to estab-lish cross-border initiatives and cooperative research partner-ships such as autonomous vehicle technologies and clinical trials with major hospital systems in Michigan.
The region has a highly skilled workforce with expertise in light-weight materials, clean diesel, robotic-intensive auto-mation, 3-D printing, design of assembly and production lines and more remains a key attraction to investors. The agri-busi-ness/food processing sector is also a major driver of our econ-omy with the largest vegetable greenhouse cluster in North America. The University of Windsor and St. Clair College, are among the leaders in teaching and training a highly-educated roster of graduates ready to take on an ever-changing world.
Windsor-Essex is the fourth-most ethnically diverse re-gion in Canada, with 101 distinct languages spoken, where people from all of the world’s major cultural and faith trad-itions find welcoming communities with opportunities to succeed.
Take a step into the future by investing in Windsor-Essex – a strong and vibrant region ready to embrace the challenges of a new economy.
