A Unique Township with an Eclectic Mix of Rural Charm, Lifestyle Offerings and Business Opportunities

An extraordinary building design, housing world-class brands, teeming with high profile, multitalented professionals, and more—the excitement is palpable as you plan a new commercial development property. Getting those plans on to a drawing board, signing on the dotted line and coughing up the investment dollars is where the rubber meets the road.

That is why, you want to consider the Township of Scugog for your next
commercial development project. A vibrant rural retreat with classic small-town charm, Scugog is only 13 minutes from the 407 and 48 minutes from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Your business here will have easy access to the larger Greater Toronto Area (GTA) market, PLUS fourseasons
lifestyle offerings through access to Lake Scugog, historic downtown Port
Perry and a world class local health-care system.

As Township of Scugog Mayor Bobbie Drew says: “Scugog is an incredible place to live and work. Our proximity to the GTA provides unique opportunities for businesses and employers to flourish professionally while establishing a quality of life in Scugog that fosters healthy lifestyle options not found anywhere else.”

Local Scugog business, PP Print couldn’t agree more: “A family and community minded business started in the Region of Durham and remains here today! Many opportunities have presented themselves to us. Due to the central location of Durham Region, we find ourselves doing business
with many other surrounding areas. We are minutes away from Toronto! Durham, a great place to develop a business, to raise a family and a fantastic place to live and play!”

In its concerted effort to drive developer investment, Scugog, in partnership with Durham Region Economic Development and Tourism, unveiled a new web-based real estate tool for investors in May 2019. As an online, interactive guide, the tool provides site-selection information and resources for investors who are looking for industrial and commercial investment opportunity. It also includes key economic strengths, within the municipality, to attract investment. All of this is available through an interactive webbased interface: INscugog.ca.

Township of Scugog Chief Administrative Officer, Paul Allore wants to see Scugog attract the right kind of investment: “We are very excited for the township to be the first in Durham Region to offer this interactive tool for
developers. We are a small community, close to Highway 407 and GTA. We have an amazing support system here with our partners at Durham Region and within our local business community. We know once investors see our potential, they’ll want to be in Scugog.”

The web-based guide targets investment in three key areas of the township:

  1. The Phort Perry Business Park (Port Perry Employment Lands): features several site opportunities west of the town of Port Perry, with immediate access to the Trans-Canada Highway. The location is only 13 minutes from Highway 407, and the township is offering incentives for development through a Community Improvement Plan.
  2. Historic downtown Port Perry: a huge draw for visitors, residents and
business owners who are looking for a one-of-a-kind waterfront location to explore. A Community Improvement Plan is in the cards for late 2019 to help drive investments and provide incentives to revitalize areas of the beautiful downtown immediately next to Lake Scugog.
  3. The Commercial Centre or the Smart Centres site: located between
Highway 7A and Scugog Line 6. Many commercial businesses are already housed here, within proximity to other core areas of the township.
