At St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School in Oakville, girls from Preschool to Grade 12 experience an enriched academic and co-curricular program delivered by teachers who are experts in educating girls. We support each girl’s interests, talents, learning needs and strengths, and our world-class facility and signature programs equip her to achieve excellence in whatever path she chooses.
Global Studies
As part of our Global Studies program, girls explore and connect with communities – local and global – through experiential learning trips, community service, cultural exchanges and international student leadership opportunities. Girls choose the experiences that interest them most and learn, first-hand, what it means to be part of a global community. Our students have explored the far reaches of the earth, including India, Bhutan, China, Singapore and Australia, to name a few. Each student has the opportunity to transform her view of the world as an active community member and global citizen.
Professional Internship
In Grade 11, every SMLS student participates in a month-long, workplace experience that is customized to her personal career interests. Girls explore the real world of business, technology, marketing and commerce, among many others. They gain valuable, professional experience that not only provides them with insight into their specific career choices but also sets them apart as they pursue their career goals.
Robotics and STEM Education
Our award-winning FIRST Robotics program enables girls from Grades 1 to 12 to compete in a series of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) challenges. Our Senior School team, SWAT 771, holds the title of being the first Canadian, all-girls’ team, and remains the only Canadian team that has won the prestigious World Engineering Inspiration Award at the FIRST Robotics World Championships. At SMLS, girls not only have the opportunity to explore STEM, they are actively encouraged to pursue their individual passions in STEM learning and careers.
Active, Healthy Living for Girls
As part of their SMLS education, girls of all ages participate in outdoor education, physical fitness, creative expression and spiritual reflection. We focus on the whole girl and we equip each student with the life skills and wellness habits she needs to be an active, healthy person for her whole life.
